Exotic Gypsy Stereotypes in the Fashion Industry: Rethinking Representations of The Roma People

Please join the Roma Peoples Project and the Harriman Institute for a discussion with Viji Reddy, founder and design director of Alamwar Textiles. Reddy will present on ethical practices in the fashion industry and empowering representations of marginalized groups, discussing how stereotypes can be rethought in order to to enhance accurate representations of the Roma people. Viji Reddy is an international fashion designer and the founder and design director of Alamwar Textiles. Spending her time in between United Stated and India, Reddy is a champion of incorporating slow fashion models and supports empowering representation of women in her design practices. She is committed to working with women from marginalized groups to revive their traditional craft in an authentic yet modern style, to question the fashion world's ethical presumptions, and to advocate for fair representations.
