Masterclass with Director Axelle Ropert. Moderated by Shanny Peer

RSVP HERE.

Join Axelle Ropert to talk about Petite Solange, screened at the Lincoln Center in this year's Rendez-vous with French Cinema, and her first featured film, The Wolberg Family, screened at Columbia Maison Française online from March 7 to March 13 (please click here to get access to the film).

Ropert’s superb debut feature is a seriocomic family drama centered around Simon Wolberg (François Damiens), the proud Jewish mayor of a small provincial town in northern France. Equally comfortable expounding on the American soul to a group of schoolkids as he is with the minutiae of city government, Wolberg’s public face hides some disturbing private troubles: at home he’s increasingly estranged from his wife, and his two teenage children don’t get him—nor he they. As the emotional fault lines that surround the good mayor begin to split apart around the time of his daughter’s 18th birthday, Simon must struggle to hold his family together. The wonderful ensemble cast includes a scene-stealing Bozon as Wolberg’s brother-in-law and constant headache.

This masterclass with Axelle Ropert will be introduced and moderated by Shanny Peer, Director of the Columbia Maison Française. This event is free and open to the public. Proof of vaccination is required and masks are to be worn over the mouth and nose at all times. RSVP HERE. You can also follow the discussion live on Facebook.

This screening and masterclass are co-sponsored by the Columbia Maison Française, Unifrance and Albertine Cinémathèque.
